What is a Psychic?
What types of psychic abilities are there?
“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science.” Albert Einstein – What I Believe
Psychic ability, like automobiles, comes in several varieties with intensities compared to that of radio frequencies. Abilities commonly associated with and practiced by psychics encompass a variety of levels. Mental telepathy at one level is thought transfer from one mind to another – the psychic “picks up” our conscious thoughts of present situations. Clairvoyance or clear seeing, is the ability to see people, places, objects and events in the present or future through the mind’s eye. Retro-clairvoyance is the ability to see an event from the past – clear pictures, perhaps from your childhood, providing details on what you were lie as a child or who your playmates were or family events, etc. Clairvoyants also see symbolic pictures, perhaps a vision of a wedding ring, representing impending marriage.
Clairvoyants also can see auras, the energy field that surrounds the body and every living thing, extending outwardly up to ten feet. An aura gives off both light and heat, which can be measured. Light can be measured through photography; heat through a heat-sensing process. If we could view auras on film, we would see them constantly in motion, changing in shape and size.
Clairvoyants see auras in colors of red, blue or green, among others. These colors continuously change depending on the mental and physical state of the individual. When someone is happy, their aura will usually be large and bright with clear colors. Dar, dull colors represent an imbalance, usually someone who is sad or ill.
Sometimes psychics “sense” a color rather than see it. The sensation comes from the heat emanating from the person.
Some clairvoyants also see chakras. Chakras consist of seven invisible (to the normal eye) energy centers within the physical body, starting at the base of the spine through the top of the head. These seven colored vortexes emit energy from within – sexuality, power, emotion, love, creativity, communication and understanding. Psychics who work directly with auras and chakras are sometimes able to remove blocks and imbalances, or to tell an individual what is causing a block.
Clairaudient is clear hearing – the psychic hears the voices of people, just as they speak and express themselves.
Clairsentience is clear sensing – the ability to sense something inwardly. Psychics don’t necessarily see spirit guides for example; they sense their presence. It’s merely being sensitive to energy vibrations, either from the body or from spirits.
Precognition is the ability to predict a future event not otherwise known by scientific investigation or common sense.
Lastly, psychokinesis, or telekinesis, is the ability to move generally inanimate objects through thought.
Parapsychologists often refer to psychic as “psi-sensitives.” ESP is the umbrella term for clairvoyance, precognition and mental telepathy. Psychics generally use more than one ability simultaneously. One psychic, for example, said to a client, “I see a cow near the side of the highway.” This was the clairvoyant picture. The psychic continued with, “Within two weeks your neighbor will call and tell you how he ran into a cow on his way home from work.” This is precognition, predicting an event before it has happened.
Many times a psychic will ask to touch you or use an object such as jewelry or an article of clothing associated with the individual of inquiry, as a means for focusing and enhancing psychic ability. This is called psychometry. Everything we touch leaves an impression of ourselves. Something that is worn has more vibrations encoded into the article. Holding an object enables the psychic to pick-up those vibrations.
Anthropologists and archaeologist employ psychics with psychometric skills to gain information about fossils and skeletal remains for historical purposes. The police also use psychometrists to help solve murder cases. By handling a gun, knife or piece of material involved in a crime, psychometrists are able to gain insight on key information about a particular case.
